1999 Planning Project Award, APA Central California Chapter

Lawrence R. Moss and Associates provided design services, prepared construction documents, and performed construction administration for the Chester Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project. This project covers eight city blocks of Chester Avenue in downtown Bakersfield, from Truxtun Avenue through 23rd Street. Some of the design elements of this project included the construction of landscaped center medians and bump-out planters, signature paving at intersections and crosswalks, new street trees, light fixtures, seating areas, informational kiosks and a clock tower. In addition, LRM designed entry treatments at each end of the project area to visually signify that persons are entering the downtown commercial core of the city.
